People’s Music Store is a site that allows you to create your own online store from the catalogue they have available to sell. Build your own site, sell music, keep 10% of the sale price as a retailer. You decide what to stock, and you recommend and sell the music you love from your own personalised store.
Here’s the catch: the 10% that you keep for selling other people’s music isn’t provided to you in money. You can only spend it on more music through the site. I’ll let you decide whether that’s a good deal or not – or whether it’s worth supplying these guys with your music for their member retailers to stock.

Great idea ruined by the inability to turn it into a revenue stream
Unless I’m missing something…if you were to build your own store and make money from music already licensed by someone to someone else (IE the artists/record company to the website) wouldn’t that infringe Creative Commons etc unless the artists/co had given carte blanche on use of the material? I know money isn’t what is being offered but Julian mentioned revenue streams etc. It does beg the question of course why they wouldn’t give carte blanche given whats been discussed here at length before about giving away digital music etc.
That’s why I’m interested to know what the circumstances are in artists/record companies supplying material for the catalogue. Presumably they know that some of their work will be downloaded for the price agreed but then also agree to the inevitability of storeowners acquiring their work for free when they build up their reward points? It would help if those kind of terms and conditions were available up front rather than having to email for information on how to supply your music. Is there a sign up fee? What is the cut on purchases? Etc
And lastly, if we are to believe and accept that digital music can be acquired for free when one puts their mind to it, how valuable are these points and wouldnt they make more sense if they were to be allowed against more than digital products, IE physical, limted edition, small merchandise etc?
As a musician, at first glance, and given the way things are going it would seem better just to give your music for free to a site like this providing it had large user numbers you can benefit from and there were no upfront fees.

In a nutshell, punters can make their very own record shop online and gain points for the sales they make alongside the usual royalties that go to the artists and labels. And then (this is the clever bit) those points can then be used to buy MP3s.
So you get to show everyone what sophisticated taste you have, support your favourite artists, and get free music in the process. Ingenious!
