Really interesting development in digital music production: The Melodyne plugin allows you to separate notes out of a chord to manipulate individually, as if they were multitracked - or, more accurately, as if acoustic recordings were MIDI.
It’s pretty impressive - and apparently due later this year.

One of the great things about the migration to digital broadcasting platforms is what gets left behind. As the VHF band is cleared of television and radio signals, previously unavailable (or incredibly scarce - and therefore expensive) spectrum becomes freed up.
That empty spectrum, or ‘whitespace’ as it’s becoming known, has been attracting a lot of attention recently. Bill Gates is having a say, Google are putting their hands up. It’s a turning point in communications history.
Now, contrary to popular belief, there are two (rather than just one) possible uses for that spectrum that would be of enormous social and cultural use. The first would be to reallocate it for community broadcasting, low power FM, access television and other political and grassroots media. The second would be wifi. Gigabytes-fast, ubiquitous and, to the public, potentially free wifi.

Changing or upgrading your website can be a bit challenging and frustrating — especially if you’re trying to do it on your own, or on a laughably tight budget.
I’ve managed to get the site at least looking presentable, and I thought I’d tell you how I’ve done it, what it cost me and what I’ve used, in case there was anything here that you thought might be useful to steal and go and put on your site.

The website, as you may notice, is not looking its usual self. I’ve been talking about a site overhaul for months now, and it’s time I got to work on it.
So this weekend, I’m going to give it a go. I’ve upgraded to the latest version of Wordpress, I have a few ideas about what I’m going to do with the site - and I just kind of liked this template.
So… please excuse the mess and the missing navigation. There’s no easy way to do this without a bit of disruption to normal service.
