Tagging done.

Export the mdb file to Excel, macro-convert to sentence case and do a general tidy up - "Vocals by" instead of "V-", typos, etc

Then concatenate the fields into "Track-Artist-Comments" (Comments includes label and catalog number), rename them to the concatenated name with a ".mp3" extension (I used the "Rename from File List" function in "A Better Finder Rename" ) and then use a standard mp3 tagger (MP3 Tag Tools) to retag them.

Proof of concept on "Au Revoir" and the first 7 tracks from the August 8 update (copy and paste the track info into Excel and process) before I started getting "999 errors"

Dubber

OK, so you KNEW that yesterday was the 131st anniversary of the invention of the phonograph and you thought that you'd surreptitiously sneak this in and hope that no-one would notice...

Yeah right!

Come and join the blogswarm at http://jabartlett.wordpress.com/2008/08/05/we-got-yer-vinyl-right-here/

I love stuff like this. Often times we of the digital age forget that the life of un-digitized analog recordings is finite. It is our responsibility to make sure that the music of the past does not disappear for good.

Much respect to Cliff for stepping up. Myself and the guys at our studio would love to help out. If someone can do the background research on the material we would be willing to produce a series of podcasts. This would mean providing the voice talent, and recording the results of the research. Along with audio restoration work that may be needed on some of the music. We could also stream the podcast from our servers.

If anyone is interested contact me at my personal email jamespew@sympatico.ca

Great find Andrew.
