Hi

I'm scared of this particular application or the 'Music Like Water' idea - it sounds great in theory but I'm not sure it will help non mainstream indie artists like me. I am hoping we get to debate for a lot longer before finding a 'solution'.

However I am loving however pages 72-79 of 'that book' - which is the section about observing the porn industry and it's adaptation to the changing environment of internet downloading - Leonhard is suggesting music industry practitioners could borrow some marketing techniques - I like this conversation as it's focussed on research and having an open mind - I'm not ready for a 'new world order' - I'm in-between world orders at the moment.

While I was reading 'Music Like Water' again the other day I couldn't help thinking "How is this going to actually work? Who decides which record company gets what? and what if I don't listen to top 40 music?" I am quite sure you have gone into this at length on your boards somewhere - where are your debates on this posted?

In 'Code Version 2.0' Lessig draws an analogy between the current debate about copyright and the demise of communism in Europe in the late 80's. He suggests that the subsequent pendulum swing of those once repressed societies towards hedonistic free market appetites eventually settled into something more sedate. And that what we are experiencing with the present relaxations of copyright restrictions online ( even if it's just because we can't control it) could similarly swing back into something infinitely more restrictive......if we're not careful. ( oh by the way I really enjoyed the video post you had online of Lessig

Thanks Mr Dubber and comment contributors for keeping this conversation alive and giving me a place to come and get some open minded input - I certainly don't agree with everything you say but I appreciate it very much.

Maybe Gerd is a visionary and by nature visionaries tend to speak prophetically as if they have some inside connection to the future (that the rest of us don't have). But while they can be inspiring and offer much (hopeful) food for thought, they do seem to have their heads in the clouds. The saying about being so heavenly minded and of no earthly good comes to mind. My vote is for sound advice that's grounded to reality over futuristic prophecy anytime.

Well you two guys have been at the top of my blogroll for almost a year now, I think what I like about Gerd - and Bruce Warila as well - is ideas that are new and fresh and challenge you to think.

Whereas I think with you Andrew it's more about solid grounded and thorough analysis, I think you cover so much depth when you've been answering those simple questions and your experience teaching comes through in your communication.

Gerd often has a lot of great video content such as the "future talks" series which I really enjoyed. I thought you were great on video too Dubber, you should do more!

I always had my doubts about sonific though.
