[...] In the afternoon i then went to Jibbering to meet our designer for Mr Elephant. We went through the site plan i had been working on last night, and he made notes to go forth with the implementation of the website design. Then it was onto the prince, to meet Diane, to secure the first venue for our next event, and then back to jibbering for 4pm, to meet the ever inspiring Andrew Dubber. and a lucky encounter with blog extraordinaire Pete Ashton. Both gave some great tips, the main one being that i can pretty much do what i want for both sites on a customized wordpress. Which is great news, as i do have to sacrifice somethings having wordpress embedded into my joomla site. Dubber also pointed me in the direction of some useful links, (shared below), and suitably encouraging about the plans for the Mr Elephant site.Get your stats for your website http://www.google.com/analytics/ Mind Map on your computer - http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page Get suitably paid for your website - http://newmusicstrategies.com/2007/11/13/ignore-this-its-just-an-ad/ [...]

Hi there Andrew,

I met you a few months ago on the Academy for Popculture in the Netherlands. You're articles are still an inspiration. Currently I'm working on getting my own site online about marketing and online promotion for bands and artist, mainly focussed on the Dutch audience. Maybe I'll ask some questions about that later on.

So making money huh? I think you are doing it in an honest way, at least to yourself and your audience, and like any musician knows, that's a hard thing to do. So I hope you insanely rich. ;) Oh and if you happen to name my band's website as a great example of your vision, while you're getting that wealth, that wouldn't hurt.

Keep up the good work, I'll be reading it.

Greetings,

Laurens

[...] Ignore this - it’s just an ad. I’ve been chatting with Dubber about how he might monetise his rather popular New Music Strategies blog, specifically so he can pay the contributors to the new sister New Music Ideas review blog and this is what he’s come up with. Apparently it’s started very well “reaching part-time job proportions”. Well worth a read if you want to explore this avenue without being an ad-whore. [...]

I knew that there'd be some negative or cautious reaction, though I was pretty careful to make the ads as unobtrusive as possible.

It's possible you caught the worst of it as I was messing with corporate logos and affiliate programmes by way of experimentation (in the middle of the night when as few people as possible were looking), but I don't think the ads included so far ruin the flow, look or (most importantly) the content of the website.

As it happens, income from the advertising is starting to trickle in, and it's reaching part-time job proportions, so there's clearly something in it as far as revenue generation from websites is concerned.

I'm curious as to which losers in particular you feel I shouldn't be linking to, but I won't ask, because I know you'll tell me -- and I've already accepted their money so the damage has been done.

But the main reason I'm doing this -- apart from the motivating power of a bit of supplementary income that will focus my extra energy and attention on improving and posting on this blog more regularly -- is to find ways in which people can make money in the online environment.

It sounds like you hold the key to this -- an 'easy way' -- which would be great to share on the site if you're willing.

And assuming you were avoiding spelling 'bollocks' -- it's okay, you're allowed to say that here.

In fact I'll go further than that, this all smells of unnecessary bxxxxxks. How can I make a personal recommendation to someone about your site if this is what they are greeted with when they find it? Go ahead and make money from advertising, give it to charity, give it to the children, give it to the needy....but its still unnecesary. I can't even spell the word...thats how often I use it. There's an easy way to pay for the site and it doesn't come from banner adverts or sponsored posts or any of that.

I thought a smart person would generate the same amount of revenue without having to ruin the look and feel of their site with stupid adverts from no hopers. Come on Andrew, there's a better way, can't you see it? The clock is ticking
