I found out an interesting stat today - in a recent mapping exercise of the West Midlands by Digital Central they apparently only found 29 record labels, despite the large number of musicians.

If scarcity is a thing of the past why are there not more people starting their own record labels and appearing on the radar?

Is this evidence to support the idea that self-publishing is the growth area and perhaps killing the indie label model?</description>
